Sounds like it might be infected. Personally I'd slaver it in Savlon. It doesn't sting. X

My hubby (with chemistry degree) always recommends some washing soda crystals in a bowl of water as hot as you can bear it - dipping in and out and until you can bear the temperature and keep it in for a bit for any type of infection or cut and it does seem to heal things quickly because of its antiseptic quality. There is an irritant warning on the back of the pack but I never have a problem with it but you would have to decide for yourself of course if you thought it was suitable for you. Good luck with it jenni .....eve xx

I had an infected toe a while back and the chiropodist told me to be very careful about getting infections because they can lead to more serious problems. She cleaned it up and put iodine on it, with a cute little toe-bandage!! My toenails grow like claws since I've had RA, apparently it's because of damage to the nail bed which causes the nail to thicken and curl and chafe on my shoes. I've recently started having my feet seen to professionally every 6 weeks or so, because they have the right tools to keep the nails neat and smooth, and so far it's been a lot better. EVe, I like the sound of soda crystals - I've recently started using them in my washing and they certainly keep everything smelling very fresh, I guess that's because it's an antiseptic. I wouldn't have thought about using them for feet, we normally use TCP in warm water, but that smells so pungent it makes the whole house reek like a bloke's gym!! or maybe salt water soaks Jenni? I would recommend an aloe vera plant to everybody also-great for healing things. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Julie, I chucked at your comment, killer heels!! I be like uggly step sisters from cinderella trying to squeeze my bunion ra feet in a "lady" shoe!! Been years since I've donned any girlie heels. Instead I have lots of different coloured crocs clog, a black pair of health and safety black pair of crocs I wear to work. A pair of hotters for work (before foot problems). No footwear like Nigella Lawson wears! Sylvia Tcp - I have a bottle I use now an then for diluting in the bath for my daughter's grazed knees. I do get a whiff of tcp now and then, it reminds me of my grandad - he used it along side old spice!! Wot lingering whiffs! My husband cuts my nails, mine are thick and claw like :-(

Hi all, I've been having problems with a sore on the inside of my third toe, because the second toe rubs on it, wonkey toes again. But it is not by the nail, that must be very sore. I've just about got it healed at the mo, bathed it in salt water and got soft dressings from my nurse. Had to cut them down to fit but worked a treat. I did see a chiropodist about 12 mnths ago when it developed into a little ulcer so you need to be careful but to be honest her advice was pretty useless she gave me a sort of plastic wedge to fit between my toes but it was just too uncomfortable, then she gave me some over the toe stocking thing which just came straight off, then she said some of her patients just cut up an old sheet or something to wrap around their toe!!!! Needless to say I didn't bother to go back again. I did mention it to my rheumy nurse on my last visit and she said the only solution would be a op. to straighten my big toe etc. But she did stress the be careful of infection thing... I'm just wondering Sylvia who you see to have your toes manicured properly by. Hope you're getting it sorted Jennie, one way or another don't let it develop into something horrible. What I do now and it seems to be working so far is to put a dollop of emulsifying ointment betweem my toes, I get it by asking the pharmacist it seems to stop the rubbing. How I hate feet!! Zena xx.

My rheumy said good foot care is very important, so my GP fixed me up with the podiatry people. I can`t cut my own toe-nails anyway, and hated Nick doing it for me, so I see the podiatrist every 6 - 8 weeks. I used to go privately, but it was really expensive. I had an ingrowing toe nail removed by my GP two or three years ago, which thankfully healed quite well. Kathleen x

Sylvia, just wondering do soda chrystals help get the washing clean very well? I always use Surecare washing powder because my one grandson has chronic atopic eczema and it does not contain any perfumes. I'm presuming that soda chrystals are not perfumed, as surecare is not brill. at keeping whites white. Thanks,Zena xx
